Taller yogis may find themselves practicing more outside their yoga mat than in it. In this case, using wider and longer eco friendly yoga mats like the Prana Revolution Mat is a good option.
Though more known for their active wear products, Prana designed this yoga mat in collaboration with Anusara Yoga founder John Friend to make sure that it meets the needs of discerning yogis. What’s commendable about Prana is, this is a company who walks the eco-friendly talk. Since 2005, the company has been involved in a Natural Power Initiative to ‘lower their GHG emissions and accelerate the development of a renewable energy economy.”
The Prana Yoga Mat is one of their premium eco – friendly products. The mat is made with natural rubber, PVC – free and completely biodegradable.
Pros
Extra wide, extra long. With its 30 – inch width and 78 – inch length, the Prana Yoga Mat gives you more space than you’ll ever need. You now have more room to practice proper alignment with your poses and you can spread out your hands and feet as much as you need to.- Very sticky. This mat is sticky from top to bottom. It’s made with a dual cotton scrim, a woven fabric that keeps the mat from stretching too much in all directions so your mat stays flat on the floor and won’t be bunching up while you change poses. It also provides good grip for your hands and feet to help you maintain your balance.
- Very durable. The mat is made with three layers of natural rubber that are heat laminated together to make it sturdy and longer lasting than typical rubber mats. Click here to buy this mat now available at Amazon.com >>
Cons
- Lacks cushion. At 4mm, this mat is thinner than other eco – friendly yoga mats. The Manduka eKO has 5 mm thickness while Jade Yoga Mat measures in at 4.8 mm.
- Quite heavy. Of course, the added length and width causes the mat to weigh more. At 8.8 pounds, this mat may be more ideal for those who practice in one location. Otherwise, consider it a weight workout when you have to carry it around.
- Pricey. At $90, this mat is for those who have the money and are willing to invest in a premium yoga mat. If you’re on a budget, you can opt for the cheaper eco friendly yoga mats or buy them at a discount from places like Amazon.com.
Prana Yoga Mat
Prana Yoga Mat owners have this to say about the mat:
John Paluska:
I’ll join the chorus on this one. This is simply the finest yoga mat I have ever used. The extra width is a big plus and I find it stickier and more “positive” in feel than any other mat I’ve tried. It weighs a ton! Very solid state. Imagine a Mercedes S600 Sedan compared with a VW Passat – you get the picture. Click here to read the full review >>
A. Dye:
After struggling through so many reviews for eco mats, I am so glad I decided on this one. At 5’9″, I think I was really a little cramped before on a standard size mat. It’s so nice to have the extra space. Also the mat is just cushy enough to be comfortable for floor work, but absolutely perfect for balance poses as well.

Who is this for?
If you’re looking for a yoga mat that offers a lot of space and you are willing to spend more money on premium eco friendly yoga mats, then the Prana Revolution Yoga Mat is for you. It’s very roomy, sticky and sturdy, perfect for those who need more space, better support and greater alignment.
Of course, there are other great eco friendly yoga mats that may fit your needs as well as your budget. Though having the “Ferrari” of all yoga mats should not be the center of your practice, it’s up to you to decide if it’s a splurge or an investment.
Either way, just remember to choose an eco – friendly yoga mat. It will always, always be better than using a PVC.
